I spent 3 days trying to figure out how to tween a dynamic text in Flash 8 until I found out the solution simply just under my nose.

Getting the data from MySQL database using Flash Remoting and PHP is a lot of fun. In fact, I would advise its use to any future Flash development you may under take because the data coming the database of many types can only be taken as objects in the Flash-side and Flash Remoting makes it easier for you to pass those said data as objects without much programming. Aside from that, it is Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).

Anyway, going back to the tweening of the dynamic text, I never thought that it is a lot simpler that I expected. You would notice a button named “embed” when you highlight the dynamic text you wanted to animate. Now, that button is often ignored by many flash developers because they never knew its use. I am one of those!

It was only when I was banging my head for 3 days on how to tween that particular instance - dynamic text, that I noticed it. In fact, it was more of a “trial and error” when I found out that one has to set the the drop down box to “anti-alias for readability” before the embed button.

After doing such, click on the embed button and highlight the “Uppercase, Lowercase and Numbers” selections using your control keyboard and your mouse (for windows) and press the OK button. Don’t mind the the Autofill button. Just leave it alone.

Try to look at the figures below:

Tweening a Dynamic text

That’s it! now you can animate your dynamic text in whatever fashion you want it tweened. Simple right?

Note: The anti-alias for readability is only compatible for Flash 8 and higher. Anyways, you can experiment on other things in Flash but at least the bottom line is, it is the embed button where lies the secret on how to animate your dynamic text.
